The answer really defends on you.
How do you like to live in the Philippines?
Do you want to live in luxury?
Or just an average middle class life style?
To give a comparison lets analyst a typical American life style.
Let's say Joe rent a room, have an 8 hours job as a dishwasher and living on his own.
Joe's must expenses:
Rent
$500-
Food
$200-
Total
$700-
Please note:
I did not include all expenses like gas and allowances for other stuff.
Now let's see Juan also has the same 8 hour job as a dishwasher living alone in the philippines.
Juan's must expenses:
Rent
P1,000
Food
P3,000
Total
P4,000
Note again that I did not include all expenses like transportation allowance and other stuff.
If Joe will spend his money here in the Philippines
joe's money $700 is P28,000 ($1-P40)
Well ok it's not a good comparison, but I did give you a good picture.
In the Philippines you will not spend as much as in the states.
Your dollars is multiply 40 times, so if you're spending around $700 per month in the states, you will be sure to love to spend them in the Philippines.
Just don't try to apply for a dish washer here.
Nobody will pay you $5 per hour for that job.
So how much do you need to live in the Philippines?
Not much but it's a lot cheaper than $700 (P28,000) a month.
If you're really a kind of spender P500 a day is an average luxury way of living in the Philippines.
For your information:
minimum wage here in the Philippines is P385 a day ($9.65)
